When we were kids we used to hear so many myths and misconceptions. Like if you swallow the seed of a fruit, then the tree will start growing in your stomach, if our head accidentally collides with each other, we should intentionally bump it again otherwise horns will grow on our head or the dog will bite us and much more other myth and misconception.
Today I am going to share some common myths and misconceptions that we think are right but nothing more than just myths.
Drinking tea in summer is bad
Source: TimesOfIndia
If you are tea lover this
myth debunking is for you. We all love tea in the winter season because it
makes us feel warm in our body and the combination of tea and dumplings (chai
& pakode) in the rainy season holds a special place in our hearts. When the
summer season comes some of us quit tea, thinking that it might be bad for our
health because the weather is already so hot.
If this is the reason you quit tea in summer then you shouldn’t worry before taking one cup of tea because drinking tea in summer doesn’t harm your body in fact it helps to cool it down. When we drink tea there is an increase in heat in our body which causes sweating. When the sweating evaporates in the air, it lowers the heat of the body.
Drinking 8 glass of water in a day
Source: Alarmy
We have been hearing a
general health suggestion since childhood that "we should drink at least 8
glasses of water a day". This is a myth. We should consume
2-3 liters of water to hydrate our body but not directly with water.
Instead, we should eat food, tea, coffee, milk, fruits, juices, and other
liquid content.
How many liters water is needed depend upon age, demographic location, and many other factors? If you are an athlete or marathon runner your consumption of water must be high than those who don’t lose such quantity of liquid from their body.
Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight
Source: Mic
If you love to read books
but sometimes your busy schedule don’t allow you to read in day time then
somehow you find time to read at night but you think that reading in dim light
may ruin your eyesight because we have been hearing since childhood that if you
read in the dim light it will ruin your eyesight.
This is nothing more than just a myth, the truth is that when we read in dim light our blinking rate of eyes decreases which leads to dryness. When the dryness of our eyes increases, we cannot read anything comfortably. Even though it doesn’t affect our eyes we should not read anything in dim light if it is not that necessary.
Chewing gum stays in your stomach for 7 years
Source: TheHealthy
One of the common myths of
our childhood, when we accidentally swallowed chewing gum and our friends or
close ones scares us by saying that this chewing gum is going to stay in your
stomach for 7 years.
But the reality is chewing gum also decompose in our body like every other food content. Chewing gum is made up of synthetic and natural materials like gum and resin, preservative, sugar. Sugar is absorbed by the body and other digestive materials are digested by the body. The resin is not digested by the body, so it decomposes and the rest is thrown out of our digestive tract by our guts. The journey of chewing gum ends in a trip to the bathroom.
Lifting Lighter Weights gives you ripped physic
Source: 24Life
A common myth among
gym-goers is that if you want a ripped physique then you should go with
lightweight and high reps. Even some instructors suggest this. This is nothing
more than just a myth.
If you want ripped physic then the first thing you should focus on is your body fat percentage. When your body fat percentage will go down, your muscles will visible more than ever. In place of lightweight, I would suggest lift weight according to your strength and try to go higher which will build your muscles. And rep range can be 8-15. A combination of calories deficit diet and right weight and rep range will give you ripped physic.
Cardio is better than weight training
Source: MrDiscipline
One debate among gym-goers
is cardio is better than weight training. Some of us prefer cardio and some
prefer weight training as per our goal. I prefer weight training over cardio or
a combination of both 40-60%.
When we do cardio such as
running, cycling us only hit the lower part of the body. In running it only
hits lower legs and in cycling it hits quads but when we do weight training we
engage the whole body and this build overall physic.
